Unfinished Business Television takes a DEEP DIVE into one of the strangest and most unsettling cult films of the early ’90s—Meet the Applegates (1991). Blending pitch-black comedy, sci-fi satire, horror, and suburban dysfunction, this bizarre hidden gem remains unlike anything Hollywood has produced before or since.
Starring Ed Begley Jr. and Stockard Channing as the heads of an insect family disguised as the perfect suburban Americans, Meet the Applegates delivers a razor-sharp satire of consumerism, family values, environmental destruction, and the dark side of the American Dream. The deeper the Applegates assimilate into human society… the more human—and dysfunctional—they become.
We also pay tribute to the legendary Dabney Coleman, whose unforgettable supporting performance adds another layer of wit and authority to this wonderfully weird film. Coleman had a remarkable gift for elevating every project he touched, and Meet the Applegates is no exception.
