How You Can Continue to Support AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS

I want to personally thank everyone who contributed, followed, or shared our campaign for American Gunslingers. As you can see, we fell short of the minimum goal. No one is as fault given the effect this current crisis has had on all our lives recently. This was never an easy journey to start and we won’t let this put a halt on our efforts.
We will continue to pursue the necessary funds through outside sources and continue to re-evaluate our plans going forward. If you would still like to contribute to the project directly outside Seed&Spark, we have a PayPal link which you can find on this website’s menu under “Support Future Film Projects”. Click on the menu icon on the upper right hand corner of this website and scroll down until you see the PayPal link. We will keep everyone updated on the project’s progress to ensure full transparency and that the funds will be used strictly for this project.
Lastly, all Seed&Spark contributors will be put in a special emailing list for all future updates. Please continue to follow us on Facebook.
…and the journey continues…

American Gunslingers: A New Western Series & What it Means to Me

I want to take this moment to talk personally to everyone who has been following the progress of our next film production American Gunslingers from the beginning. If you visit the crowdfunding campaign link at Seed&Spark, we have given potential backers a lot of insight about the story, the production, our team via Team Highlights, and why we need funds for the production. What I have rarely talked about is why this project is personal to me.
With every past project that I have completed, I am usually drawn to story elements that I can relate to in my life. Chris Corulla and I knew we wanted the basic premise to be about two brothers finding a treasure by following a map tattooed to their arms. But it was Drew Henriksen, our screenwriter, who came up with the backstories and found ways to make each character three-dimensional. What ultimately came out of his script that made it personal for me was how this story talks about depicts innocent children who are forced to grow up after tragedy, the life choices they make that set them on opposite paths, and how they are reunited to right the injustice of their past. There is no better way to tell this kind of story than in the old west where those themes and conflicts are directly in your face.
On a professional level, I have made several projects set in current times where I have had to work with the resources that I had available. After the success I enjoyed with my last feature film, Vendetta Games, as well as my award-winning short, The Saxophonist, I felt that I needed to push myself to another level. It could not be more of the same. There had to be a push to make something that forces me to be detail specific in all my artistic choices and elevate the quality of my work as a filmmaker. I believe a western gets me out of my comfort zone and there will be a great deal to learn from this experience not only as a filmmaker but also as a human being when the time comes to be away from city life to shoot this project out in natural locations.
No matter how this campaign pans out after Saturday morning, this journey will continue one way or another. I really hope each of you will continue to support the American Gunslingers team past these remaining 48 hours that we have left to reach 80% of the Seed&Spark goal. Thank you.

Last 4 Days to Contribute to AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS at Seed&Spark

We are now down to the last 5 days of this Seed&Spark campaign for the American Gunslingers production and I’m going to be perfectly honest with each of you. We currently stand at 5% with every contribution we’ve received since the campaign started in March. But for us to receive all funds, we have to be at least 80%. So this is not like Indiegogo where we keep what we get. It’s all or nothing now.

As I mentioned several weeks ago as my team and I discussed a change in direction from feature film to episodic series, we were conflicted as to whether or not to continue the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic which has everyone in the world on edge. But Emily Best and the team at Seed&Spark made an important rallying cry for all artists to not give up in such a grim time and that is what had convinced me to push forward.

The reality is our chances of making 80% of our goal are getting slimmer by the hours unless we get a miracle of big contributors to push us over. Given the 3 years we’ve been push this project, however, we are working in a sprint and not a marathon. So in the event that we fall short by the end of this campaign, we will arrange a way (likely PayPal) for you to re-send your contributions if you wish to do so and we will absolutely honor all incentives as promised. But before that happens, let’s see if we can still get whatever momentum we have left through link shares and WishList loans. That’s all we can ask from everyone today.

AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS Important Project Update about Change in Direction

I want to personally take the time to let each of you know where we stand with the American Gunslingers project and our Seed & Spark crowdfunding campaign.

As I mentioned in an update days after our initial campaign launch, we had to postpone our initial planned shoot date from the end of May to late summer to ensure a safe film production for our talent and crew. It is no secret how the coronavirus pandemic has affected all artists around the world both professionally and personally. It is also very easy to stop moving forward on any artistic endeavors at such a difficult time when everyone is worried about their job status and putting food on the table. Trust me when I say that I’m scared at times too when I watch the news and I just want to fall back into my creative writing. All that said, quitting is not in my nature and this is the time to move forward.

What does this mean?

Since we have been quarantined at our homes these past several weeks, my team consisting of Chris Corulla ( playing the role of “Randy”), Drew Henriksen (screenwriter and playing “Dragoon”), Dan Griffin (producer), and I have had some serious discussions on how best to proceed with the project once we return to some sense of normalcy. With the theatrical business on the decline (especially now) and streaming platforms becoming the more lucrative wave of the future, the 4 of us agreed that American Gunslingers would work much better as a limited 10-part episodic, telenovela-style series. This new course in direction gives us several advantages in a revised plan that will ease the complications of producing a full-length feature film including the following:

• Using the most recent draft of the screenplay, scenes can be broken up into 10 episodes and better organized budgets by episode.
• The episodic format will add more creative breathing room to tell the fully layered stories of the main characters which would normally be cut down for pacing if it had been a full-length feature.
• We can craft a shooting schedule that works for the actors’ availabilities, more flexibility among our crew, gives us breaks in between to plan new episodes, and keeps our team focused on the specific needs of each episode rather than stressing ourselves with plotting out an entire 90 minute film.
• We will be able to save on specific costs on locations and props because we will take our time shooting and editing each episode.
• For audiences, we believe this episodic format will be binge-worthy on a streaming platform that they will return to time and time again.

We have already proved our capability in producing a western just with the teaser trailer which was shot in Long Island last summer. With additional funds, we can improve on all production needs including sound, lighting, costumes, locations, props, and horses. Once the series is completed, we will submit the pilot episode to film festivals and pitch the full 10-episode series to streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Tubi, etc.

With this new direction from feature film to series, we are now lowering our initial $25K goal to $15K. This will be enough to get the initial episodes produced. For us to receive the full funds, we only need to reach 80% of the goal and thanks to Seed & Spark, we were granted a 15-day extension meaning our new deadline is May 9th. So, all listed rewards have been reduced to increase our chances of matching our new goal.

We believe this direction will be the right way to not only tell our amazing story, but it also has the potential to be something groundbreaking in reviving the western genre to today’s audiences. The current crisis may have disrupted our path and we are mindful about everyone’s personal needs right now. But we started this journey on a dream and it is our determination to finish it.

Special Message About Our Projects Light of COVID-19

I want to personally take this moment to update our followers with the status of some of our upcoming projects, specifically AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS, in light of the current coronavirus crisis. After discussions with my team, we decided to postpone our original plan to begin production at the end of this spring and we may try to re-start the production either the end of the summer or early fall. There are so many moving parts to getting this film made and when you deal with horses, outdoor locations, child actors as well as some actors of a certain age, there’s some serious responsibility to maintaining a professional and safe production. We felt it was not worth the risk rushing into the production because of the uncertainty of this pandemic. This also might affect other projects we were planning for this coming season as well.

We will keep the Seed & Spark campaign for the film active until it ends on April 23rd. I had initially thought about canceling it until we received our first contribution yesterday. I’m honestly not sure how successful we will be at this point because of the public paranoia this virus has created. But it always helps if you guys can please share the link to at least get us trending.
So what do we do for the time being? Well now there’s time to write new scripts and The Silver Screen Action Figure Podcast will continue starting with a brand new episode to be released tomorrow. For those of you who plan to bunker down at home for the long haul:

Support the Production of AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS on Seed & Spark

Now looking ahead to the future, I am formally asking for your help and support once again for AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS. Today, we have launched the crowdfunding campaign on the website Seed & Spark to raise funds for the full-length feature. We have been planning this project for nearly 3 years. But in the midst of planning the full feature film last year, we realized the logistical and financial obstacles in producing an independent western movie in vintage New York and Connecticut restoration parks with period costumes, props, and of course horses. Now we are more determined than ever to pull the trigger on this amazing project this summer.

Seed & Spark will not only allow us to raise funds but also the ability to get specific offers for all production needs including equipment, locations, horses, etc. All that said, I am directly outreaching to YOU for a commitment to join us on the journey and donate to AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS within these next 45 days. If you are unable to commit financially, however, then you also have the opportunity to follow and share the campaign on all social media.

Please support this special project today: https://www.seedandspark.com/fund/american-gunslingers#story

Also, don’t forget our screening date for the American Gunslingers trailer at Garden State Film Festival is set for SATURDAY, MARCH 28 at the Berkley Hotel Continental Room (1401 Ocean Ave, First Floor, Asbury Park, NJ)!
