Bob Oliver was one of the few people who believed in me as a filmmaker. As a Kickstarter supporter and producer on Vendetta Games, he did more to support the production than I was willing to ask for. I loved being on set with him and on my later film, The Saxophonist. My condolences to his family at this difficult time. https://everloved.com/life-of/robert-oliver/?flow=201
For those who don’t know, this is the very last week of our Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming western project AMERICAN GUNSLINGERS. So far, we have only raised 14% of our fundraising goal since we began last month. We’ve actually done a little better than our previous campaign on Seed & Spark which was greatly affected by the initial lockdowns caused by the global pandemic. But this is still an all or nothing situation where if we don’t meet the minimum goal, then we get no funds to start production next year. We would have to consider other options.
We understand that the $12K goal is a long shot to reach between now and our November 21st deadline. So even if you can’t afford to contribute, you can still help us a long way by sharing the Kickstarter link. All it takes is the right eyes to view our work and be willing to support what we need to get up and running. These rewards are also worthwhile to get should you decide to contribute.

After such a chaotic year with all productions at a standstill, we are now going to announce some new projects that we at AJ Epyx Productions are taking on in the coming new year:
CALCULATED EGOS follows a struggling Brooklyn warehouse worker named Melvin Mac, Jr. who is offered an important job opportunity by reputed Italian mob boss, Don Cesare Pachino. The wealth that the job provides for Mac’s wife and son also makes him a target for enemies working in the shadows. This results in a series of tragic events that will change both the Mac and Pachino family lives forever. The web series will be a 10-episode arc spanning three generations from the mid-1970s to the present day. We are proud to bring to life this gripping new project from award-winning film director, Andrè Joseph of AJ Epyx Productions, writer/producers Christopher Stewart and Minoj of Source Life Entertainment, and associate producer Sonia Ruiz. If you have any questions or comments, please check out our official website. Follow on Instagram @calculatedegos

Any little bit will help. But just as importantly, if you can please share the link, it gets us a long way. Lets make it happen! http://kck.st/33QWGQ7

I want to take this time today to thank those of you who have supported us on this journey thus far as we are exactly 3 weeks away from the start of production on The Saxophonist. The cast (Beavin, Nadya, Michael, Ann, Zoiea, Ron’Netta, Jarrett, and Ronnie) and crew (Myself, Bill, Charlie, Joan, etc.) have devoted so much time working very hard in rehearsals and fundraising efforts to get this special short film off the ground. Even though we are getting closer to shooting, we are really just getting started on building the word of mouth.
For those of you who have been following our efforts and are still on the fence about donating to the production or sharing the links to potential contributors, let me explain why supporting this film will matter. Without your help, it will be extremely difficult to pay for specific location fees for the jazz club and ballet theater locations in Manhattan. It will also be difficult to have a sizable crew to ensure the professional quality that this movie cannot work without. Most importantly, we want the overall look and scope of the film to be as cinematic as possible while also providing a comfortable working environment that will ensure all actors and crew can do their absolute best work.
Then there’s the cultural relevance of the film. Jazz music is truly an American art form. The legends most associated with the genre were African-American musicians (i.e. Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins, Miles Davis, etc.) who pushed the music and broke new ground for the generations that came after their time. They also made music that was socially relevant in each decade. I personally look at the sensitive times that we are living in today with Black Lives Matter and what is reflected in our films and TV shows that often focus on the pain and struggle of being black in America. Some are well made and have serious impact on viewers while others tend to be exploitative. With The Saxophonist, I truly want to make this particular film special by depicting more positive representations of African-Americans characters that young people can look up to and relate to their real world struggles for success in the big city. I plan to present it not only at film festivals such as ABFF and Urbanworld, but also to schools for prospective students of the arts.
This is my seventh film project since earning my BA in Film: Media Production at Emerson College in 2006. Of any project I have ever worked on, this is the most personal story that I want to share to the world, honor my family as well as the legendary musicians who inspired me to write this script.
Whether you can contribute a significant amount or simply a dollar to support our production, all you have to do here is visit the SUPPORT section of The Saxophonist website to learn how to make your donation with a credit card or check. All donations are 100% fully tax deductible due to our fiscal support from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Please note that NYFA is not funding this project; however, their support allows us to raise funds using their tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3)-classified organization. If you want to donate directly now, visit the NYFA donation page link. We also have a Kickstarter campaign with 16 days left to raise half our budget if you are interested in obtaining rewards for your contribution.
Every little bit of support will be one step towards a great movie. I hope you can help us make this big dream of mine a reality. Thank you.
Writer/Director of The Saxophonist
A very huge THANK YOU to every one of you who contributed to the Vendetta Games Kickstarter campaign! Thanks to your efforts, we have raised $3,300 which was so much more than our minimum goal! We still have plenty of work to do after the holiday season when we continue production. But this will help us return to the movie stronger than ever! We also got some big surprises in store for the month of December…
We have two behind the scenes videos from the set of VENDETTA GAMES to share with our fans. The first (which was previously released) is from the two nights when we shot the opening scene this past summer. The second all new video is from the DEA office scenes that were shot earlier this month. See them below:
We have started making orders for the official movie poster and T-shirt rewards for the Kickstarter campaign. Should we meet our minimum goal once the campaign ends, we will survey all the backers who requested these rewards to make sure we get the right sizes for the shirts and other information pertaining to the rewards.
With Thanksgiving coming up, this will be our final campaign update until the deadline on Nov. 29 at midnight (5 DAYS FROM NOW). We continue to thank everyone who has supported the movie up until this point and we hope you can continue to support by helping us raise the remaining $329 we need to meet our minimum goal. This movie means so much to the entire cast and crew as you will see in our behind the scenes videos and previous interviews. Your pledges, link shares, and other means to build word of mouth only get us one step closer to achieving success for the project as a whole.
We have exactly 10 days left to reach the minimum goal for Vendetta Games movie campaign on Kickstarter that we almost made previously. Currently standing at 80%, we just need $500 to make it happen or else we do not collect the funds at all. So we are offering 2 new rewards:
– If 500 people here can pledge at least $1 to the campaign, we will send you a customized poker chip from the movie.
– Pledge $5 or more, we will send you a CUSTOMIZED FREE BEER MUG. Current standing backers will have this included in your rewards.
Please support in the remaining time we have left by going to this Kickstarter link now!
